The Fallout franchise has been around since 1997 attracting a fan base and plaudits from the gaming press. It was not until 2008, post release of Bethesda’s open world showcase Oblivion, that Fallout 3 was released on the XBOX 360 and Playstation 3.
The game is based in North America and is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland of barren flatlands and deserted pockets of civilisation. The oppressive and eerie atmosphere adds to the overall charm of the game in which you explore a somewhat believable, fantastical imagining of life after a nuclear war. Mutated creatures are littered throughout the world as well as hostile factions intent on extinguishing your existence. A system called V.A.T.S. (short for Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System) is employed to target parts of an enemy’s anatomy with one of your weapons – it is a guilty pleasure seeing a foe literally explode if the hot spot is hit and the required XP gained.
The game’s main quest can be followed diligently from location to location fulfilling the activities requested of you within the current locale.
However, the fun starts when you go off the nuclear beaten track and find unexplored buildings, shacks and shanty towns – each with a story to tell and experience points to gain.
It’s been 10 years since I last played Fallout 3. Seeing the aircraft carrier once again, standing imposingly in front of the devastated city landscape evoked a massive sense of nostalgia – and here it is for you to enjoy in all its splendour and glory.

Ridge Racer was a massive hit in the arcades — if you were like me back then, I had trouble getting to any seaside locations where this game’s cabinet was located with steering wheel, gear stick and throttle thrown into the mix.

Sega Rally was the flagship title for the Sega Saturn and rightly so. I actually remember owning a Sony Playstation with Ridge Racer and still being envious of Saturn owners having this arcade game in their lounge.
